Fellowships/Grants to study in Scandinavia

Deadline: November 1, 2021 (Competition for the 2023-24 academic year will open on April 15, 2022)

ASF’s award program for study and research abroad has been the Foundation’s most long-standing commitment to educational exchange.

During the past 100 years, over 4,000 fellowships and grants have been given to Americans and Scandinavians engaged in study, research, or creative arts projects. In 2021, 29 students, professionals, and artists were provided over $398,341 in total funding.

Translation Prizes

ASF Translation Competition is an international competition for literary translations into English from any Nordic language and genre.

The American-Scandinavian Foundation annually awards three translation prizes for outstanding translations of poetry, fiction, drama, or literary prose written by a 20th or 21st-century Nordic author.

Additional funding sources for Americans doing study or research in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden

and Scandinavians doing study or research in the US may be available through other organizations that are not affiliated with the American Scandinavian Foundation.
