Administrator

The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) is seeking applicants for an ADMINISTRATOR position. The Administrator is a key member of the Senior Management team for an international educational/cultural nonprofit organization, based in New York City, at Scandinavia House: The Nordic Center in America. The Administrator will be involved in all aspects of the ASF operations, working closely with the President and other senior staff members.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participation in the planning and implementation of a wide variety of public programs and special projects
  • Participation in selected fund-raising projects
  • Personnel oversight, counselling, and development of HR policies
  • Oversight and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy, including public relations, website, and publicationss
  • Periodically serving as public representative of the organization
  • Serving as liaison to and general support for the Board of Trustees

Candidates should have a minimum of seven year’s management experience, preferably in a nonprofit, and possess excellent written and oral communication skills. BA required, graduate degree preferred. Knowledge of Nordic/Scandinavian culture and history desirable.

Part-time Visitor Services Assistant
The American-Scandinavian Foundation seeks a part-time Visitors Services Assistant to welcome visitors to Scandinavia House, provide information about events, programs and exhibitions; keep accurate counts of visitors to Scandinavia House, and maintain a daily log of all activities. The individual will be responsible for sales of tickets to events and programs, and maintaining reservations lists, and may also assist with programs and events held at Scandinavia House.

Minimum 15-20 hours a week until early evening and including Saturdays. Knowledge of and interest in Nordic culture a plus; communication and computer skills a must. Position is available only on an as-needed basis.

Scandinavia House Events Assistant
The American-Scandinavian Foundation seeks a part-time Events Assistant to provide support for events held at Scandinavia House by external institutions.  Responsibilities include meeting with clients to discuss logistics, setting up and breaking down furniture and audio visual equipment, and being on site during events to help with concerns and needs of the clients; ideal job for student in the hospitality field or a recent graduate with a degree in that field. 20-25 hours a week depending on the schedule of events, which may include weekends and evenings.   Prior experience in event rentals or catering, and knowledge of A/V equipment, is preferred but not required.

Part-time Temporary Positions at The Shop @ Scandinavia House

Part-time sales positions in a museum-style shop. Sales/retail experience, art/design knowledge, and fluency in a Scandinavian/Nordic language preferred. Flexible hours.

Also, Receiving/Stock positions. Computer knowledge a must, attention to detail required. Retail experience a plus.
