Assistant to the President

The American-Scandinavian Foundation seeks a part-time Administrative Assistant with excellent communication skills to provide support for the President and Executive Vice President on administrative and Board of Trustees matters and on fundraising efforts; and to assist with cultural programs and special events as needed. Previous experience with a cultural institution, strong PC skills (Word, Excel, and databases), and knowledge of Scandinavia and/or a Scandinavian language important.

Director of Centennial Programs

The American-Scandinavian Foundation seeks an individual to plan and implement a variety of public programs including exhibitions, lectures, concerts, screenings, and children’s events, taking place in observance of our 100th anniversary. All programs will take place at Scandinavia House, our cultural center located in midtown Manhattan and visited annually by over 100,000 individuals.

Working closely with top management, the director will collaborate in the conceptualization and planning of programs; oversee all arrangement and preparations; and supervise promotion and marketing. He/she will work with current program staff. He/she will also interact with organizations, trustees, and donors, as well as members of the diplomatic corps.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years experience in the planning and management of public programs, preferably in a museum or cultural center. He/she should possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written. He/she should also be a self-starter and a team player with a maximum of flexibility. International experience, particularly in the Nordic countries, is preferred. The position may be full or part-time.

Manager of Communications

The American-Scandinavian Foundation seeks a Manager of Communications to develop and implement media relations and promotional opportunities in conjunction with its upcoming Centennial. Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as press contact and handling media inquiries
  • Developing press lists and contacts; cultivating and maintaining press relationships
  • Organizing press events
  • Writing and distributing press releases; fact sheets, media alerts and other Centennial information
  • Creating new media outreach
  • Developing promotional activities and opportunities
  • Developing partnerships with other organizations

Qualifications: strong writing and editing skills, excellent communication and networking skills, experience in communications with a museum or cultural organization. Knowledge of Scandinavia / Nordic countries a plus. The position may be full or part-time

Part-time Events Coordinator

The American-Scandinavian Foundation seeks a part-time Events Coordinator to work with the Scandinavia House Manager to promote  Scandinavia House as a venue for corporate, non-profit and private functions and meetings.  The individual would be responsible for contact  with clients, helping them to plan the details of their events and being on site during their events to assist with technical set up and to coordinate with other contractors, such as caterers, production staff and event managers.  The Events Coordinator would also assist with marketing the venue, and maintain a marketing database and a marketing budget. Part-time Temporary Positions at The Shop @ Scandinavia House

Part-time sales positions in a museum-style shop. Sales/retail experience, art/design knowledge, and fluency in a Scandinavian/Nordic language preferred. Flexible hours.

Also, Receiving/Stock positions. Computer knowledge a must, attention to detail required. Retail experience a plus.
