Name of Firm:  American Swedish Historical Museum

Location:  Philadelphia, PA

Description of the Training Assignment:
The American Swedish Historical Museum in South Philadelphia is the oldest Swedish Museum in the United States. Founded in 1926, the Museum has been dedicated to preserving and promoting Swedish and Swedish-American cultural heritage and traditions for nearly 80 years. The Museum is a place where Swedes, Swedish-Americans, and people of all nationalities who appreciate Swedish contributions to history, art, architecture, music, science and technology can come together. www.americanswedish.org

We are looking for an intern to assist with Marketing and PR activities such as advertising, updating and creating the museum’s profile on social networks (Facebook, Twitter), maintaining the museum’s website, creating event flyers and invitations, working on the quarterly newsletter, and managing all e-mail marketing and press releases. This internship will also focus on membership communication, such as updating the membership database, working with membership letters and renewals.

Period:  9-12 months, beginning ASAP

Income:  $12.75/hour, 35 hours per week

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE APPLICANT:
Finished, or almost finished, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in marketing, PR, communication or similar field. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and/or Illustrator a must. Prior experience with web design and social media websites is a plus.

Description of the Training Assignment: Sales and Marketing Assistant role in multi-line showroom which represents KITSUNE, NUDIE JEANS CO, WANT LES ESSENTIELS DE LA VIE, SWIMS, ARCTYREX AND THE WHITE BRIEFS. The role will offer the Candidate a 360 degree view of the operations of a fashion wholesale agency. The candidate will work closely with sales managers in preparation for the New York market, see prospective clientele, and assist in market appointments. Other duties will include fielding multiple customer service issues, assisting in Product Knowledge seminars, managing inventory of samples in showroom, and managing press requests and sample trafficking.

Description of the Training Assignment:

In general: Work with System Management; learn and train in operating system (AXAPTA). To review order fulfillment cycle and monitor replenishment levels. Understand and facilitate order flow from the European Distribution Center.

Tasks could consist of: Send tours to the scanner according to the shipping schedule, print routing documents and label them accordingly and check if all orders are printed. Monitor tours when ever they are ready. Create Bill of Ladings and schedule trucks. Get freight rates and stay within freight percentage. File BOL and distribute to CSR and accounting. Track shipments. Update freight logs, daily goal and total sales log. Get freight invoices from courier’s website.

Income:  Room and Board. BoConcept will cover all expenses involved with getting the required visa and cover the monthly fee for ASF.

Description of the Training Assignment:

The American-Scandinavian Foundation Programs Department plans, coordinates and implements the public programs presented by the ASF at Scandinavia House, including exhibitions, films, concerts, lectures, symposia, as well as children’s programs and special events. The intern will gain first hand experience working in a non-profit arts institution.

The intern will assist with all aspects of coordinating and publicizing Scandinavia House’s cultural programs. The intern will create print and web-based promotional materials including the spring 2011 Scandinavia House brochure. The intern will assist with audience development and participate in the organization and implementation of a variety of cultural programs. 

Income:  This is an unpaid internship. Interns are responsible for airfare and housing. The ASF will provide visa sponsorship.
