CHILDREN'S CENTER ASSISTANT (PART-TIME, PERMANENT)

The American-Scandinavian Foundation is seeking a friendly, reliable, and responsible Children’s Center Assistant to help ensure a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for children, parents, and caregivers at the Heimbold Family Children’s Playing & Learning Center.  This part-time permanent position primarily involves Wednesday and Friday shifts, with occasional opportunities for additional hours during special events or when other staff are unavailable.
Good Childhood philosophy at our Center stresses the opportunity to help develop competent children, by emphasizing feeling free through play-experiences organized by children themselves. Therefore, the environments we offer focus on our values such as cooperative play, tolerance, consideration of others and gender equality. These experiences stimulate minds and inspire imagination while also offering children lessons in self-control and social awareness.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Greet children, parents, and caregivers upon arrival
  • Verify guest reservations and signed liability waivers through the online system
  • Provide guidance on Center rules
  • Monitor the play space to ensure safety and rule compliance
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly environment, including cleaning after each play session
  • Assist the Coordinator’s Assistant in the weekly art workshops
  • Support special events (e.g., holiday celebrations) and assist with activities such as arts and crafts as needed

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children and families is highly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to engage with both children and adults in a welcoming and professional manner
  • Experience/education in art and early childhood education preferable
  • Interest in Scandinavian culture preferable
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to begin work in mid-December 2025
  • Availability on Wednesdays and Fridays between 9:45 AM and 5:00 PM, with flexibility for the occasional additional shifts
Additional Requirements:
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation to and from work
  • Must be highly proficient in English, both verbal and written
  • Must be eligible to work in the USA
  • Ability to provide at least one professional reference

Compensation, Schedule & Other Details

  • Compensation is $25 hourly
  • Typical shift: 9:45 AM – 5:00 PM, with break for lunch, on Wednesdays and Fridays
  • Occasional sick coverage, weekend or holiday shifts as needed
