The Young Patron’s Pass


Are you seeking exciting events in New York and have an interest in Scandinavian culture? Join the ASF Young Patrons!


The Young Patrons pass is a membership level at the American-Scandinavian Foundation for people ages 21 to 40. The program is an add-on for Individual level members and above, and can be purchased for $100.


The Young Patron’s program includes all of the membership benefits (based on your membership level), plus:


  • Invitations to exclusive Young Patron’s cultural events and programs, at Scandinavia House and around NYC.
  • Two complimentary tickets to every screening included in one of our current or upcoming film series
  • Discount on one ticket to ASF’s annual Gala on May 10, 2018
  • Free drinks during the monthly Fredagsøl events and happy hour specials.

Fredagsøl—Beer tasting!

Fredagsøl, literally meaning “Friday beer”, is the Danish custom of meeting up with your friends after work to have a couple of beers and celebrate that the weekend has finally arrived. The event takes place at BÚÐIN, a Nordic style coffee shop and craft beer bar located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.


This Fredagsøl we’ll get to taste a variety of nice beers! Fruity, hoppy, smoked and sour beers, ales, and IPAs by Mikkeller, Brekeriet, To Øl, and more!


So come by BÚÐIN after work to share a drink and stories with fellow Nordic friends!

Swedish Midsummer Festival in Battery Park City

On Friday, June 21, the annual Swedish Midsummer Festival takes place in Battery Park City on lower Manhattan! At this unique celebration, adults and kids come together to picnic in the grass, decorate the midsummer pole, make flower wreaths, play traditional games and dance to authentic fiddle music.


Some of New York’s finest Scandinavian restaurants and food purveyors – Smorgas Chef / Crepe du Nord, Fika, Nordic Preserves, Red Rooster and Gigino at Wagner Park – will host food stands offering Swedish picnic-style delicacies.


Two information tents located by the entrance to the park will be hosted by the Consulate as well as the Battery Park City Parks Conservancy.

Welcome to the ASF Young Patrons’ Valborg Dinner, scheduled for Friday, April 27, 2018 at Scandinavia House!


Valborg is an annual event in Finland and Sweden that celebrates spring’s arrival, with bonfires lit to burn the old and make room for the new. Learn more about the holiday from this video.


We’ll celebrate with a three-course Nordic dinner at Smörgås Chef at Scandinavia House!


Members and non-members are welcome. Space is limited.

Screening & Meet and Greet

Young Patrons will get a chance to meet with the film director Erlingur Óttar Thoroddsen over some Nordic snacks! The event takes place in the Halldor Laxness Library.


Afterwards, we will make our way downstairs to Victor Borge Hall for the screening of his film The Rift/Rökkur, an Icelandic psychological thriller.

The Young Patrons’ program will soon be turning 2 years old! To celebrate the program and thank all of you for supporting ASF, we are arranging a big party on OCTOBER 19. The party will feature Nordic food, ciders and beers, and there will be gift bags for all current and new Young Patrons.  DJ Lovestory, who will be joining us from Stockholm, will be spinning tunes for us all night.

Join the ASF Young Patrons as we visit the concert with Icelandic singer-songwriter Ásgeir. Young Patrons pay only $5 to attend the concert, the rest will be sponsored by ASF. Each Young Patron gets a maximum of 2 tickets for $5 each.

Independent Visions Guided Tour & Nordic Cocktails

Join the ASF Young Patrons on a guided tour of the celebrated art exhibition Independent Visions: Helene Schjerfbeck and Her Contemporaries, from the Collection of Ateneum, Finnish National GalleryEmily Stoddart, Exhibition Coordinator at Scandinavia House, will tell us more about the four artists Helene Schjerfbeck (1862–1946), Sigrid Schauman (1877–1979), Ellen Thesleff (1869–1954), and Elga Sesemann (1922–2007). After the tour we will go to the bar at Great Northern Food Hall in Grand Central. The menu includes a variety of exciting cocktails that feature local ingredients with a Scandinavian twist.

June 5th, 1960, Finland was shocked by the news that three teenagers had been stabbed to death while camping near Lake Bodom in the south of Finland. Now, almost to the day 57 years later, you have a chance to see the scripted film based on these events. All Young Patrons receive 2 tickets to this invite-only screening, where director Taneli Mustonen and screenwriter Aleksi Hyvärinen will be present. There will be a reception after the screening.
